HUNI’s International Vocational Centre for Research & Skill Acquisition Unveiled

An International Centre for Vocational, Entrepreneurial, Skills and Research was unveiled at the Havilla University, Nde, Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State by Chief (Dr) Mrs Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, The Centre is named after her. The Centre, when operational, will house sections for vocational training of rural women and youth who are mainly not privileged to attain education; a research centre on sustainable agriculture in the face of climate change and adaptation; and provide. She said: “I wish to recommend that for posterity purpose that the inauguration of Chief Dr. Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo International Centre for Vocational, Entrepreneurial, Skill Studies and Research, today will help to churn out quality graduates. Earlier, Dr Mrs Folasade Tinubu-Ojo was installed at Havilla University as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council. She also chaired an inaugural meeting of the Governing Council at the Council Building. Other members of the Governing Council include: Mrs Blessing A.O Tangban and co-founder of Havilla University, Prof Ejor Tiku and Vice Chancellor of HUNI, Prof. Sylvanus Obi Abang, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. M.S. Haruna, Prof Nelson Osuchukwu, Prof Eyong Ubana, Prof Peter C. Okafor, Dr Gideon Chidiebere Osi, Pastor Gbenga Olufisayo, Max Ogar Esq., Amb. Kinsley Amafibe, Dr Sylvester Ebaye, Dr Peter Silas, Sir Godwin Akwagiobe Ukwu, and Mr. Emmanuel Ikade. Others are: Dr Antor Odu Ndep, who is also secretary of the HUNI Board of Trustees, and Dr Christian Chima Chukwu the University Registrar and secretary of the Council. The Council was inaugurated by the Chancellor, founder and Visitor of Havilla University, Hon. Evang. Jones Ayuk Ojong Tangban, in company of Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar (mentoring University), Prof. Florence Banku Obi, who doubles as Chairman of Havilla University Board of Trustees. Dr. Folashade pledged to put her head together with other Council members to ensure that quality education was given to students of the institution. The Governing Council chairman maintained that what she had done is part of the of President Tinubu’s initiative of Renewed Hope agenda to see that most Nigerians graduating from University become employers of labour rather than job seekers. At the commissioning of the Chief Dr Folasade Tinubu-Ojo Academic Complex named after her by the HUNI management, she said: “For purpose of posterity, the inauguration of Chief Dr. Mrs. Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo International Centre for Vocational, Entrepreneurial, Skill Studies and Research today will help to churn out quality graduates, who will be self-reliant. This Centre shall be a processing ground for production of self-employable young graduates and wealth creation in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria. The HUNI Pro-Chancellor said: “This Centre which will be technologically driven; it shall work with local and international organizations to provide first-class training in skills and technical labour to champion the new industrial revolution in Nigeria and Africa as a whole”. Dr Mujidat stressed that Havilla University Governing Council under her watch will work hard rigorously to attract capital projects to the institution through collaborative efforts and partnerships to build a glorious ivory tower that will compete with global world. “The Governing Council will work hard, and collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to assist the university with special intervention fund. “We will by the Grace of God, work hard to provide for students high quality education that will bear the trademark of sustaining the course of development in Havilla University in the years ahead”. She said. Dr Mrs Tinubu-Ojo stressed that funds secured will be channelled into equiping of the university laboratory, and some basic infrastructures among others, adding that whatever education the university inculcate on students will reflect in them after graduation. The ceremony was rounded off with conferment of Chieftaincy title on the Pro-Chancellor by host community women of Nde community for visiting their community, which has helped to register the community on the global map.
