HAVILLA UNIVERSITY, the first private varsity in central and northern senatorial districts of Cross River State, commenced its 2022-2023 academic session with a one-week reorientation programme for the returning students and the staff.
The capacity building which began on Monday 24 through Friday 28 October was to prepare the returning students and staff for the new academic session, being the University’s second year since its opening in November last year. Havilla University (HUNI) was unveiled to the public on 6 November 2021 at a grand occasion at its expansive campus on Ikom-Ogoja highway.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Samuel Wara, opened the training with an opening remark in which he charged all (staff and students) on the theme: “Engaging for Impact and Sustainability” which will drive activities of the University for this current academic session. Particularly, the VC informed that more work would be expected from everyone –students who are now in 200 level – are expected to face new courses – and staff who would be handling these courses.
Some of the topics presented included: “Vision for 2022/2023 & Impartation”; “Lecture Notes & Content Delivery, Setting Exams, Grading & Results”; and “Spirituality, Excellence & Chapel Activities”; “Staff Welfare, Awards and Prizes” by the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Wara. The Director of Admissions, Students Affairs & Establishment(DASAE), Dr. Helen Wara delivered her training on “Rules & Regulations, Codes, Ethics, Channels of Communication, Leaves & Exeat, Residency Codes & Ethics”.
Other presentations were: “Reorientation for Havilla Community on Security 2022/2023 Session” by Dr Silas Augustine; “Engaging Mathematics for a Sustainable Future” by Mr Raphael Owan Asu; “Life on Campus & Speaking” by Dr Ben Eguzozie; “Managing Students & Staff Excesses” by Dr Uche Nwachi; “ICT for Teaching & Learning, Use of Smartboard and Available ICT Resources” by Mr Kommomo W. Iwara who coordinates the ICT unit; while Emmanuel Nsor, of the ICT unit delivered two trainings on the “ICT Essentials”.
The following topics: “Facility Management”; “Accounting Sub-head”; “Walking with Jesus–Pathway for Unending Success”; “God of Everything–How to Position as a Trailblazer & Pathfinder”; Paying through School by Yourself: The Power of Determination” were handled by the Youth Corps members serving in the University who are: Kim Danladi, Fidelis Ndubuisi, Damilola Omowonuola and Ayomide Babarinde.
“Life on Campus: Lessons and Suggestions” and Paying through School by Yourself” were two special topics handled by Dr Ben Eguzozie with participation of the students including Miracle Olanrewaju, Favour Adedeji, and Elom Thomas, respectively. Chrstine Eyah also delivered “Developing a Small Business as a Student: Self-Empowerment to Cushion Financial Pressures”.
